2024 Critical Issues in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Conference

The 9th annual CICAMH conference will focus on innovative treatments and strategies for youth and families to foster mental well-being. An emphasis will also be placed on addressing barriers families face so that clinicians can continue to support youth and their individual needs. 

The conference will offer providers strategies for promoting family mental well-being through novel interventions such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Racial Socialization, community supporting for mandated reporters, and treatment for Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder and other eating disorders. There will also be a focus on reducing barriers for youth from minoritized communities such as LGBTQ+ individuals and racially and ethnically diverse families.

The goal of the CICAMH conference is to increase awareness and understanding of these critical issues affecting youth mental well-being and to offer attendees resources to be better able to support youth, families, and their communities to promote healing and resilience. 

Learning Objectives:

Understand one barrier that families face that impact their ability to receive evidence-based care for mental health treatment.

Recognize five benefits and risks to social media use and presence in children and adolescents.

Explore three ways that interpersonal and racial stress and trauma impact development for diverse youth.

Describe one technique involving community partners and those with lived experiences that is utilized to support family strengthening work.

Identify two evidence-based treatment modalities for children and adolescents with eating disorders.

Explain how a public health model of primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention could be applied to reduce mental health challenges among children and families.

Recognize one protective and promotive role of racial socialization on behavioral and mental health outcomes for Black youth.

Describe three ways to assist parents in supporting their gender diverse and/or LGBTQI+ teens.

Identify two ethical issues associated with telehealth mental health treatment for youth and families.
